FRANKFORT, Ky. — The “Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics” Act is a major win for Kentucky veterans exposed to toxic burn pits while serving overseas. Known as the PACT Act, the bill passed in the U.S. Senate 84-14 this week and now heads to the House, where it is expected to pass and head to President Joe Biden’s desk to be signed into law.
The Act will provide additional benefits and resources for military members battling cancer and lung problems because of exposure to burn pits in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Whitney Allen is the Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs and tells Spectrum News 1 that twenty to thirty thousand Kentucky veterans served in the areas covered and this will allow them better access to VA health care facilities and earning benefits and entitlements they deserve.
