Juneteenth celebrations
Dozens of events will be held this week in honor of Juneteenth.
Observed every year on June 19, Juneteenth, which is also called Emancipation Day, is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the official end of slavery in the U.S.
The city of Louisville is hosting events all week, many of which are free and open to the public.
In Lexington, several community groups will host Juneteenth celebrations on Sunday with a festival and a literary event.
Fiberglass horses in Lexington
More than 85 painted fiberglass horses will soon decorate the streets of Lexington.
On Friday, visitors can get an up-close look at the horses in a preview event at Ashland. Admission is free and parking is $10 per car.
The horse displays will be up through the fall when The Breeders’ Cup returns to Keeneland.
Pride events
The Kentuckiana Pride Festival and Parade coming up this weekend in Louisville.
The parade is scheduled for noon Saturday in the NULU neighborhood.
The festival goes until 10 pm at the Big Four lawn.
