McConnell left before answering a question about how this time, following a deadly school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, will be different from other mass shootings.

A day earlier, President Joe Biden said he believes McConnell is a “rational Republican” who will come to the table to discuss new restrictions on guns, despite the Senate GOP leader’s track record of opposing major pieces of gun control legislation.

“I think that it has gotten so bad that everybody’s getting more rational about it; at least that’s my hope and prayer,” Biden said. “I consider McConnell a rational Republican, and Cornyn as well. I think there’s a recognition on their part that we can’t continue like this. We can’t do this.”
