LOUISVILLE, Ky. — With the nationwide supply of blood still "vulnerablly" low, the American Red Cross announced a blood drive for Tuesday, April 26 at the KFC Yum! Center.

What You Need To Know

  • The American Red Cross is holding a blood drive at the KFC Yum! Center

  • The blood drive is on Tuesday, April 26 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Each donor will get a $10 e-gift card

  • Appointments can be made online

Home to the Louisville Cardinals, the Yum! Center will play host to the blood drive from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release.

Each donor will get a $10 e-gift card to "a merchant of their choice," according to the Red Cross.

Parking for the blood drive will be free. Donors just need to enter the Yum! Center's parking garage from the west side of the main entrance off of Main Street.

The Red Cross, which supplies 40% of the nation's blood supply, has had to limit distribution as a result of the shortage, which rose alarms earlier this year. Officials observed a 10% overall decline in blood donations since the COVID-19 pandemic began, and blood drive cancellations due to illness and severe weather have only made the shortage worse, the Red Cross said.

All blood types are urgently needed, but O+ and O- are the most needed in hospitals and emergency rooms.
