LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Myles Cosgrove, the former Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) detective who fired the shot that killed Breonna Taylor in her apartment, is suing the department and a disciplinary board to try and get his job back.

The lawsuit against LMPD and the Louisville Metro Police Merit Board was filed Wednesday in Jefferson County court by attorney Scott Miller on behalf of Cosgrove, who lost his job in January 2021.
The merit board upheld Cosgrove's firing in December 2021 by a 5-2 vote, and his attempts to appeal that were denied.
In the 11-page lawsuit, Cosgrove's attorneys decry the board's decision as "arbitrary" and "unlawful" several times, accusing the board of violating his due process.
A "lack of substantial evidence" to justify Cosgrove's firing is also alleged in the lawsuit.
Cosgrove's intentions, according to his attorneys, are for a judge to overturn the board's ruling, reinstate the detective and award him back pay.
