  • Ice storms create dangerous situations for towing companies and emergency response crews

With 30 years in the industry, Lee Roberts, President and CEO of Roberts Heavy-Duty Towing and Recovery, says ice storms are one of the hardest working conditions.

“The worst event is the ice events. Gravity takes over. I don’t care how good of a driver you are, gravity takes over and there’s literally nothing you can do about it,” Roberts said.

Roberts is asking for people in Fayette County to stay off the roads as much as possible.

“Nothing is open, there really is no reason to be out,” Roberts said.

Not only for the safety of the public, but also for his employees.

“If you have to be out and you see my guys, try to move over because I want to keep my guys safe,” Roberts said.

Fully staffed, Roberts expects to respond to hundreds of calls throughout the evening, making emergency situations their priority.

“The governor is relying on us and other towing companies to do that, so if you’re out joyriding and playing in a parking lot, you’re probably gonna get parked to the bottom of the list,” Roberts said.

He encourages people to consider the safety of those who need to respond to emergency situations and said staying home can help keep everyone safe.

Through the overnight hours, crews like Roberts Heavy-Duty Towing and Recovery will respond to emergency calls.
