LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Micah Goff has skills on the basketball court and on 2K, but the nine-year-old isn’t much of a trash talker unless, of course, it’s actually trash he’s talking about.
“I don’t like when the neighborhood is dirty because if it’s dirty I don’t like it, so that’s why I started cleaning up the yards and stuff and picking up the trash from the ground,” Goff said.
What You Need To Know
- Micah Goff, 9, started his own sanitation business
- He offers leaf and snow removal, landscaping and trash and recycling removal
- His focus is serving elderly and disabled neighbors
- He has set a goal to buy a riding lawnmower with the money he earns
He started volunteering to keep his elderly neighbor’s yard clean. He also lends a hand with his trash and recycling bins.
“His trash gets full so I’ll put it right there, so when the dumpster people come I’ll pull it back up there and then do it all over again,” Goff said.
Micah’s services were always free, but when his neighbor surprised him with a payment, he got an idea.
“I learned people need help with a lot of things and with their yard,” says Goff. “My goals is to help people and make money.”
So he started his own company, Big Mic Sanitation, offering affordable snow and leaf removal, basic landscaping, and trash and recycling removal.
His primary focus is helping seniors and disabled people in his neighborhood.
“Some old people, I can do it for them. They probably can’t walk, so I can sweep the stuff and get off the yard and stuff,” Goff said. “If they try to do it, it will hurt. It’ll probably take them all night.”
Micah is the eldest child of six but only by one minute.
His mother, Chakeitha Goff, said he’s setting a positive example for his younger siblings.
“I believe he’s learned more to love and serve people. His dad’s a pastor, so he already has that in him, but this is like the hard work, the hands-on work that he sees us talk about. Now he’s getting to exercise it himself,” Chakeitha said.
He has a piece of advice for other young entrepreneurs.
“When you get older, follow your dreams that you want to do and just learn,” says Goff.
Micah shares some of the money he earns with his siblings and the rest he’s saving to buy a riding lawn mower when he’s big enough to drive it.
Micah’s next plan of action is to grow his clientele. You can contact him at bmsanitationservices@gmail.com.
