LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Hundreds of Jefferson County Public School staff members remain in isolation/quarantine as of Monday, Jan. 17 and as a result, JCPS is extending Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) for the rest of the week, through Jan. 21.

What You Need To Know

  • Jefferson County Public Schools don't have enough staff for in-person instruction

  • Non-Traditional Instruction will continue Jan. 18-Jan. 21

  • JCPS will continue curbside meal pickups

  • Jefferson County School Board will take up the legislatures approval of 10 remote learning days that are not NTI

In a letter sent to Spectrum News 1, JCPS said, " As of 2:15 p.m. today, we had 692 staff in isolation/quarantine due to COVID-19, about 30 more than last Sunday. This does not include staff who have approved absences for other reasons."

JCPS says it hopes to return to in-person learning on Jan. 24.

JCPS will also be continuing its curbside meal pickups at more than 100 schools from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. Each day, families can pick up two days worth of breakfasts and lunches for each JCPS student in their household. Last week, more than 75,000 meals were distributed.

In the letter, JCPS says it has six NTI days remaining and they hope to use them "strategically." The letter also mentioned the Kentucky Legislature's approval of 10 remote learning days which are not NTI and cannot be used districtwide. The letter says the Jefferson County School Board will take up the issue Tuesday, Jan. 18.
