WASHINGTON, DC — Sen. Rand Paul has officially filed for re-election.  The lawmaker from Bowling Green is seeking a third term in Washington. Spectrum News 1 spoke with Paul Tuesday and asked about what motivated him to run again.

He said, "You know, I ran for office because I was worried about how much borrowing and spending and debt are countries accumulating. I'm worried that every time government rose, I think our freedom shrinks. And I think that battles become even worse over time.” 

Paul currently serves as the ranking member on the Senate committee on small business and entrepreneurship.  

The senator will like face off against the Democratic candidate. The Democratic primary is set for May 17 with Charles Booker and Ruth Gao running for the nomination. 

The general election is set for Nov. 8.
