LEXINGTON, Ky. — With the holidays, COVID-19 testing locations have seen a rapid increase in appointments. One Lexington location has extended their hours to accommodate for the increase.
Cole Cincinelli, location manager for Wild Health helps COVID-19 testing sites in Lexington, and says this holiday season has been stressful.
“Yesterday I think I maybe worked about a 10 hour shift so today I don't think I'm working as long but it's been a lot of hours without a doubt,” Cincinelli said.
Those 10 hour shifts are because the demand for testing has increased. On Monday Wild Health did over 3,400 tests.
“It's been pretty stressful on our team just because we're constantly going and going and going right so we don't get many breaks,” Cincinelli said.
Emily Spivey, a director for Wild Health says Monday was the highest number of tests she had ever seen, and says because of the increase in demand, the PCR tests results are taking additional time to process.
“Definitely the morning is when it's fully booked every single appointment slot in the morning and that's what's crazy is everybody in this line has an appointment but in afternoon there are more open spots so if you don't want to wait in such a long line definitely come in the afternoons,” Spivey said.
Spivey says the line has been wrapped around the road and took about an hour and half to get through the testing site, but Cincinelli and Spivey say their testers are working around the clock, swabbing and receiving results as quickly as possible.
The Wild Health testing location on College Way will now be open from 8 a.m. — 10 p.m. until the testing facilities start to see a decrease in appointments.
