It's a project that’s been in the making for 4 years, building a new home for Alonda Shipley.

“Oh, this is going to be the living room area here and then behind us is the dining room area and then the kitchen area and then this is one of the kiddos bedrooms with a double closet,” Shipley said.

Shipley has given years to her community. Working with multiple organizations, like Black Achievers, and Revive, a nonprofit that helps people through their journey with recovery. And because of her impact in Nicholasville, volunteers have come together to make a change in her life.

“We're just here to help, we're volunteering our time not getting paid so we're just trying to help them out,” Derrick Gross, Owner of DG Exterior Renovations said.

Gross along with a group of volunteers to help with the construction, encouraging those who can, to give back to those in need.

“You know God's really blessed me with a lot of work so you know I'm just doing this to give back. I think it's important to give back to your community,” Gross said.

Shipley is excited to start her life as a new homeowner and Habitat for Humanity is hoping to finish the house for the family by the end of Jan. and is looking for volunteers to reach out and make a difference.
