CINCINNATI — Kroger announced it's now offering COVID-19 boosters at local pharmacies and The Little Clinic locations in Greater Cincinnati, Dayton and Northern Kentucky.

What You Need To Know

  • Kroger will be setting aside a "vaccine power hour" for the first hour of business Monday through Friday dedicated to giving out vaccines and the booster

  • Kroger and the CDC recommends getting the flu shot before the end of October

  • Kroger Health will also have a hiring event to fill 1,500 positions nationwide

The chain said it's setting aside a "vaccine power hour" during the first hour of business each morning Monday through Friday to solely provide vaccines, whether it's for COVID-19, the flu or others.

“With the flu season quickly approaching, it is important to remind our population about the importance of getting your flu shot, and your COVID-19 vaccine if not yet vaccinated to help protect against severe illness,” said Ryan Davis, Kroger Health and Wellness division leader. “Getting both vaccines is the best way to protect yourself and those around you from getting sick with COVID-19 and the flu this fall and winter."

Eligible populations for the booster include adults 65 and older, people 50-64 with medical conditions, long-term care residents ages 18 or older and also those who are 18-49 with underlying medical conditions, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Recipients of the booster must have also received the second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine six months prior.

The CDC is also urging people 6 months or older to receive a flu vaccine by the end of October. Kroger also noted these details for the flu vaccine:

  • Flu vaccination has important benefits, such as reducing illnesses, doctors' visits and helps avoid missing work or school. It can also prevent flu-related hospitalizations and deaths.
  • Different flu vaccines are approved for use in different groups of people.
  • There are flu shots approved for use in children as young as 6 months old and flu shots approved for use in adults 65 years and older.
  • Flu shots also are recommended for pregnant people and people with certain chronic health conditions.

Kroger Health also announced a virtual hiring event on Oct. 6 to fill 1,500 associate positions. It will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and positions include pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, patient care technicians and nurse practitioners nationwide.

Interested applicants can register for the event on The Kroger Family of Companies career site.
