LEXINGTON, Ky. — It's officially football season for the University of Kentucky. Fans were excited to cheer on the Wildcats at Kroger Field for the first time with full capacity since 2019.

The Ky Roadcats RV Club of Lexington attend every home football game with RV's instead of tailgating in cars or trucks. They tailgate to fundraise money to support UK football athletic trainers with an annual scholarship.

“My husband and I belong to a group called the Roadcats, and it is a group of 30-40 RV’ers that meet every home game and we tailgate together,” Kathy said.

The Roadcats not only attend every UK home football game, but they also support UK basketball and baseball games, arriving early and staying late. They travel to Lexington the Friday before the game and leave on Sunday mornings after the game.

“This year, to be able to walk around and greet people and eat together is absolutely wonderful,” Kathy said.

It's the Adams 12th year tailgating – now they're making it a tradition for a new addition to the family.

“This is India Blue, it is her first tailgate and she is 18 months old. So she did not get to tailgate last year either and it is really special to share it with my granddaughter,” Kathy said.

It's been too long for the Adams family and many other Roadcats since they have been able to have laughs, eat good food and have even better company.

“We have been looking forward to this day for a long time, we had friends that we did not get to see except for football season, it is like an extended family. So, Friday night when we came in the RV’s, we immediately got to see people we had not seen,” Philip said.

The Adams family feel the same way about the return of football at full capacity for UK football games. The two made more food than they usually do, encouraging any and everyone to come join the fun.

“We have missed each other terribly, it is like a family reunion. We have not seen these people that have become close friends in two years,” said Kathy Adams.

The Adams can not express enough how thankful they are to have a little ounce of normalcy back in their lives.

“To be able to gather is just wonderful and we’re doing it very safely, every one of us has had our vaccines,” Adams.
