CARLISLE, Ky. — It's been almost two weeks since the storm that went through Carlisle caused homes to become condemned and shut down the only grocery store in town.

Samone Ratcliff with Just Serve has been helping to bring resources to Nicholas County after the area lost its grocery store.

“It’s not just those that were flooded that were affected. The whole county was and we hope to be able to alleviate that suffering across the county,” Ratcliff said.

The Save A Lot in Carlisle was one of the only grocery stores in town. The store was completely wiped out after the flooding.

“We've ordered a semi-load of food and it will be distributed to the people of Nicholas County. It will, we will assist in that and it will hopefully ease the burden of the fact they've lost their grocery store,” Ratcliff said.

On Tuesday, a truckload with 38,000 pounds of food came in with basic staple food items like flour, beans and different canned items for the community.

“It will be things that this community will be able to take good advantage of. I'm thrilled,” Ratcliff said.

Ratcliff said as she’s worked throughout the community this past week, everyone has pulled together, showing their big heart in their small town.

“One of the problems I had was that they were so helpful to one another. I would call up a group of folks to come in and maybe volunteer and by the time I got all of my volunteers, the job was done. This is how it's supposed to be. Each of you taking care of each other,” Ratcliff said.
