LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The boys in purple are on a hot streak. Boasting a 10-3-3 record at the season's midpoint, Louisville City FC currently leads the USL Championships Central Division.
“It's about making sure the mentality doesn't drop, the understanding that we want to continue to climb to be at the top of the entire USL, certainly of our division and to do that this is another opponent in our way,” Danny Cruz, head coach for Louisville City FC said.

The easiest part is getting to the top, and the hardest part is staying there. That’s why the boys in purple are continuing to find ways to improve.
“It's important that when we start talking about continuing to improve throughout this season and wanting to accomplish our goals, it's something that needs to be fixed," Cruz said. "We've put a heavy emphasis on it this week and we will continue to do so."
One of those areas to improve? Conceding late goals. Each of the club’s last three opponents have scored after the 85th minute even as LouCity went unbeaten in those games.
“I think as a team we've been working really hard on when we have a lead, when we're winning at the end of a game, how to close out a game, how to make sure we don't give up any opportunities and we end up with a couple more shutouts,” Antoine Hoppenot, forward for Louisville City FC said.
Since Lynn Family Stadium transitioned to full capacity on June 12, the boys in purple have been unbeaten at home. Lou City hopes their fans will lead them to another USL Cup win.
“Every little moment when you feel a little tired and you hear the fans, you hear everyone there. I think it makes it easier to make that next run, and then the next run, and then the next run, and then we have a win," Hoppenot said. "That's kind of how it works, you keep going until you win and I think the fans help us get there."
Louisville City FC advanced to the USL’s Eastern Conference Final every season since starting play in 2015, plus boasts back-to-back USL Cup Final victories in 2017 and 2018.
