Dr. Mark Lynn, owner of Dr. Mark Lynn and Associates, operates over 90 offices across the United States, but his latest project includes his wife Cindy and son Mark. The family decided to open the Lynn Family Sports Vision and Training Center in 2020 after sports vision had been a passion for years.

The $15 million training facility at Champions Park includes locker rooms for both Racing Louisville and Louisville City players, a weight room, dining hall, film room and the vision and training center.

“This is more than soccer, it's about helping athletes but it's more than that," Lynn said. "50% of all people out there have a vision disorder that they don't know about, now it may be small, it may not bother you, maybe a problem, but you just don't know about it, you just assume you can't do it."

In sports, over 80% of all perceptual input is visual, according to Lynn. But your eyes serve no purpose if you can't see the field.

Lynn said many don't think there can be improvements past the basic glasses or contacts. That’s where Lynn Family Sports Vision and Training Center comes in, with doctors providing vision testing, training and specialized therapy for those who have suffered a concussion, stroke or traumatic brain injury.

“90% of all concussions or brain injuries end up in a brain problem that leaves an eye muscle dysfunction. We can help that, we can help put those back together. We have done that with patients, we've worked with athletes in the past, we've got them on the field quicker, and helped them respond quicker,” Lynn said.

Michell Betos, Racing Louisville's star goalkeeper, jumped at the opportunity to improve her game. Taking part in regular tests and training have become second nature to her, and she now leads the national women's soccer league in saves and shutouts.

“It's hard after 10 years to find something that's going to truly challenge you and help you be a better player and as soon as I heard about this, I knew that was something that was going to do that for me,” Betos said.

It pursues the ultimate goal: working with athletes looking to improve their performance on and off the field.

“Very quickly you feel like you're a 10 year old playing soccer again, missing shots you’ve never missed before. But as you continue and as you work through the different exercises you really see a progression in your ability to really focus on the ball and become better at tracking the movements of the ball which in terms help you become better on the field,” Jimmy Mclaughlin, forward for Louisville City FC said.
