"My service on Metro Council has definitely not been a vacation and there will be varying views on whether it has been good," Hollander wrote in a statement. "But it is coming to an end. I will not be a candidate for reelection in 2022."

Hollander has served as chair of the Metro Council Budget Committee for four consecutive years. He's also a member of the council's Government Oversight and Audit Committee and Public Works Committee.

Hollander said he's announcing that he won't seek reelection now to give potential successors "plenty of time to consider their options." The filing deadline for the seat is Jan. 7, 2022, although Hollander noted that the General Assembly could change that date. He also said the boundaries of District 9 are "likely" to change after redistricting later this year.

"Between now and the first of January 2023, I will continue to do all I can to move Louisville and District 9 forward. We have some remarkable opportunities with American Rescue Plan funding, and I want to make sure we make the most of them," he said. "There are also many District 9 initiatives that I want to complete."

Hollander will remain in the seat for 18 more months.
