LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A new concert series has made its debut in Kentucky. Friday evening’s Live On The Lawn at Waterfront Park featured Billy Strings performing in the Derby City.

Live On The Lawn at Waterfront Park featured Billy Strings performing Friday. The event sold out its first weekend of shows May 21-23. Rudy Ellis, president of Youth Professionals Association of Louisville (YPAL) said it’s a sign of some fun returning to Kentucky.

What You Need To Know

  • Live On The Lawn premiers at Waterfront Park with Billy Strings May 21-23

  • In order to limit the spread of COVID-19, Live On The Lawn will operate a Seating Pod system

  • Each pod will hold 4-6 people depending on how many tickets were purchased in order to follow government health and safety guidelines

  • Masks are required for when guests leave the pod including traveling to and from concession stands or the restroom, but they're not required when a guest is inside their pod

“I think that we are really itching to kind of get back out there especially at concerts and festivals and things like that. I think you’re going to see more of this of people going out and attending these events,” Ellis said.

According to Danny Wimmer Presents, the health and safety of guests, artists, crews and the local community is their top priority. The Live On the Lawn concert series will implement enhanced safety measures based on the latest guidance from the federal, state and local authorities.

In order to limit the spread of COVID-19, Live On The Lawn will operate a Seating Pod system. Each pod is 8’x8’ and will be shared exclusively with the people that you have chosen to attend the show with you and will not include any guests that are not part of your group. The series will sell tickets in sets of 4, 5, and 6 to promote the recommended distance between other groups based on government health and safety guidelines.

“A little bit of a different look but hopefully that same feel of being back outside on a beautiful weekend of listening to live music,” said Chamie McCurry, the chief marketing officer with Danny Wimmer Presents.

In addition to the seating pods, McCurry said masks are required for all guests and staff. Masks must be worn when people leave their pods when they travel to the restrooms or concession stands. Masks are not required inside the seating pods, but event organizers encourage guests to wear them.

Ellis felt these safeguards will help give his fellow Kentuckians some peace of mind.

“As long as people feel comfortable, I think we are going to have and host these larger events and get back to doing stuff before the pandemic. It’s about making people feel comfortable and I feel like we are doing a good job of that in the city,” he said.

Ellis expects the Live On The Lawn series to help be an economic catalyst for Louisville.

“I think it’s going to be great for the city of Louisville and the state of Kentucky because we are a tourism place and that’s going to help bring people to Louisville, get people from Louisville out and really help the local economy,” he said.

Live On The Lawn at Waterfront Park continues this summer with shows scheduled for June, July, and August featuring performers like ZZ Top, Nelly and Shinedown.
