GLASGOW, Ky. — Joe Taylor, affectionately known as "Mojo," began beekeeping last year, and it all started because of his love for honey.

What You Need To Know

  • The love of honey sprung Joe Taylor into action

  • Taylor even got his grandson involved in beekeeping

  • He cares for 10 hives in total across the state

  • His services are 100% free

“The love of honey, for one, since I was as high as the bees knees, I’ve always loved honey, I've always wanted to get into honey bees," said Taylor. "Especially because they are a vital part of nature.”

Taylor learned how to perform "cutouts," or removing a bee colony from its hive before placing them in their own hive where they make honey, off of YouTube, and his care services are 100% free.

“There are actual companies that come in and do this as their living and charge big bucks for doing it," said Taylor. "I, myself, it's a free service and I'm there just to save the bees."

Taylor said he has even gotten his grandson involved and hopes to ride this wave as long as he can.

“I’m going to do this just as long as I can until I can't do it anymore," said Taylor.

Honeybees are not currently endangered in Kentucky, according to the Animal Welfare Institute, but Taylor does hive cutouts frequently. He started with two hives but is now up to 10.

"I've been getting a lot of calls and that is really all I could ask for," said Taylor. "I collect the honey and I just want to give a little bit of Mojo to everyone."
