Guthrie took notes of many improvements on the docket for Fort Knox. One of the projects includes a $45 million Digital Air-Ground Integration Range, the only such range east of the Mississippi River. Fort Knox also plans to build a $69 million elementary school to support families at the post. The installation will soon welcome ROTC cadets for the cadet summer training which is the army’s single-largest training event.
Major General John Evans says Fort Knox is transitioning to a new normal.
“Excited to see Fort Knox come out of the COVID[-19] cycle we’ve been in,” he said.
The array of projects has helped revitalize Fort Knox. Guthrie said there was concern about what place it would have in the military when the armor school was relocated to Fort Benning, but stressed how vital it is for the military’s future.
“It shows you always have to renew yourself and make sure that you are improving and making yourself valuable. Whether it’s personally or as a military installation,” said Guthrie.
