LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Thirteen gyms are working together to kick off a Louisville Fitness Passport challenge for the month of April. It’s a first-of-its-kind offering in the city.

What You Need To Know

  • 13 gyms are participating in the fitness passport

  • You get a stamp on your passport for attending a class at the particular location

  • A goal is to help these gyms bounce back because of the pandemic

  • A complete passport can be submitted for a chance to win prizes

The first step to taking part in the challenge is to grab a passport at any of the participating gyms. You can get a stamp on your passport from each gym after attending a class there.

Usually, these gyms that offer fitness classes would compete with one another, as they offer similar services. However, that’s not how Shred 415 owner Kathleen Brinch sees it.

“Our fitness community here in Louisville is really tight knit. We want the best for each studio,” said Brinch. “We truly believe we can all survive together. The more people doing boutique fitness and taking group fitness classes, the better for everyone.”

She said the fitness industry as a whole took a hit during the pandemic. It will benefit all gym owners if more people start getting into fitness again.

“It’s been very challenging for any small business here and around the world, but for gyms specifically, we didn’t get too much support from our local, state and federal government,” said Brinch. “It’s really been put on us to band together to support each other. It’s been really cool to see all these different studios whether it is boxing, or yoga, or running, come together to support each other.”

A lot of these gyms offer the first class for free. It is encouraged that people call ahead just to make sure there is room available in the class before showing up.

“The goal is just for people to experience different forms of movement, to experience different types of exercise and get comfortable back in a fitness environment,” said Brinch. “Maybe they find a new fitness home or somewhere they want to cross train and add to their current fitness routine.”
