RALEIGH, N.C. – There's light at the end of the tunnel. North Carolinians will soon get a chance to hop onboard trains again and at a discount.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation released an update saying the NC By Train service will resume full schedule beginning April 5. Due to the pandemic, safety restrictions were put in place, which halted many daily schedules using one train for essential travel.
Starting on April 2, passengers can get half off adult coach fares during the month. Rides must be within the state, and tickets must be purchased at least three days in advance. More details can be found here.
“With pandemic restrictions slowly easing, we’re seeing increased demand for safe travel options,” said Jason Orthner, director of NCDOT’s Rail Division. “Passengers can travel with peace of mind as they get out and safely begin rediscovering all that North Carolina has to offer.”
Officials say COVID-19 precautions are still in place: riders must wear masks, limited train capacity, and social distancing will be enforced.
