LEXINGTON, Ky. — Bluegrass Community Technical College (BCTC) is offering free dental care for children under the age of 12 during their "Give Kids A Smile" program. Students in the dental hygiene program at BCTC have spent the last week working with children for the event.

“We have the clinic decorated in a fun Disney theme. They can get balloons, tattoos, visits with a tooth fairy – we're just making it a really fun outreach event to serve our community,” said Mary Jones, the dental hygiene program coordinator for BCTC.

Jones said the event is a great way for her students to give back to their community, and provide a much-needed service for children.

“Our students have to be trained in working on people of all ages, so they are required to see children," Jones said. "So this is a win-win for them because they can provide free services and they get to learn how to work on children."

Students in the program decorated the facility with a Disney theme to get the children excited for their teeth cleanings.

“I could just hear the excitement in her voice that she was ready to have fun and get her teeth looked at so it's really exciting to hear the kids react to what the students have done with their decorations and their preparations,” Jones said.

Jones says the children will receive free dental cleanings, dental supplies, x-rays, exams, and fluoride treatments. The program will take place for the next two weeks Monday through Friday.
