LOUISVILLE, Ky. — One Louisville man says he's exhausted from being so excited, and he has a good reason to be. The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased the winning Mega Millions ticket worth $1,000,000. His ticket matched the first five white ball numbers but not the Mega Ball number from the Friday, March 5 drawing.

He checked his ticket on the lottery's website the morning after the drawing.

“My mouth probably dropped open,” he said about realizing he had the winning numbers.

The $8 Mega Million ticket had four sets of quick pick numbers on it. The third set of numbers (line C) won him the game's second prize.

While on his way to work that morning, he took his ticket to a store to make sure he was the winner.

“I was kind of in shock. I can say I went to work in a good mood,” he told lottery officials.

On Monday, he claimed the winning Mega Millions ticket and received a check for $710,000 after taxes. He said that with being in his early 50s, the winnings should help prepare him for retirement as "a nice little cushion."

Circle K on Bardstown Road sold the winning ticket, and the store will receive $10,000.
