LOUISVILLE Ky. — As freezing temperatures continue for most of the Bluegrass State, tow truck operators are working overtime to get stranded cars and motorists safely off of icy roads.
Chris Hope, terminal manager with Mosby’s Towing and Transport LLC in Louisville, tells Spectrum News 1, “Now the business is good. Well unfortunately for some people, we're extracting a lot of people going off the road of course."
He mentioned that drivers aren’t paying attention or turning corners too quickly.
As Kentuckians began their commute on Tuesday morning, slick roads and even driveways slowed them down.
Hope said he and his crews were dealing with it all. “Sliding off into ditches, things of that nature and getting stuck in their driveways of course,” explains Hope.
Normally Mosby’s gets about 250 to 300 calls to tow vehicles on a normal day. This week has been much different.
“Since this weather began were doing anywhere from 300 to 400 calls a day,” says Hope.
“I mean everything is slick, but if it doesn’t look slick there could be black ice there can be something out there that you can’t see physically so definitely slow down and watch out for others,’ suggests Hope.
He emphasized the importance for drivers to pay attention when they see tow truck drivers.
“If you see a tow truck driver on the side of the road trying to operate safely get over to the other side, slow down, you will definitely see our beacons before you get there.
Hope advises Kentuckians to bring extra blankets and water in case you will need a tow because it might take a while due to current weather conditions.
