FRANKFORT, Ky. — While economies around the world have been affected over the past year due to the pandemic, Kentucky’s Chamber of Commerce aims to attract foreign businesses keen on diversifying how they do business.

The Discover Kentucky Initiative, announced by Gov. Andy Beshear on Monday, will utilize the existing office the Commonwealth operates in Hamburg, Germany. It will work to attract European companies to bring jobs to Kentucky and encourage existing partners to expand.

"Through this partnership with the chamber, we’re taking advantage of how the pandemic is changing business," Beshear, a Democrat, said in an announcement video. "Companies that may not have considered selling, developing their products, or manufacturing in the United States are seeing new value in global diversification."

Jessica Moore of the Chamber of Commerce told Spectrum News 1 they plan to form a new business connection within the first month and foster relationships from there.

Kentucky also has an international office in Tokyo, Japan.
