FRANKFORT, Ky. — Few demonstrators came out to the Kentucky Capitol Wednesday, where members of the Kentucky National Guard and Kentucky State Police provided increased security.

What You Need To Know

  • Increased security at Kentucky Capitol for inauguration

  • Less than a handful of protesters showed up today

  • The demonstration was peaceful

  • Law enforcement reported no incidents

The heightened security measures, including enhanced law enforcement patrol and restricted car traffic, were in response to warnings about the possibility of violence at state Capitol buildings around the country. There were threats about violence and incidents as a result of President Joe Biden's inauguration.

Three demonstrators showed up with signs, including Ron King of Winchester.

"I think it's important to get out and get your voice heard," he said. "That doesn't mean that you have to be violent or anything of that nature."

The Kentucky State Police said in an earlier statement that it would not allow what happened at the U.S. Capitol to happen in Kentucky, referring to the Jan. 6 attack by a mob that ended with five people dead.

KSP said there were no incidents to report at the Kentucky Capitol Wednesday.
