  • Three regional driver licensing offices, four smaller field offices impacted

  • Offices expected to reopen next week, will be sanitized

Three regional driver licensing offices and four smaller field offices are being impacted. The driver licensing offices in Lexington, Jackson, and Columbia are briefly closing while the field offices in Florence, Catlettsburg, Bowling Green, and Owensboro do the same.

Expected to reopen next week, each office will be sanitized in alignment with KYTC Healthy at Work guidelines.

“We are committed to being healthy at work,” said Matt Cole, commissioner of the KYTC Department of Vehicle Regulation. “When a positive COVID-19 test result is found we are required to close affected facilities to keep employees and customers out of harm’s way. That’s what has happened at these affected offices. They are being sanitized and will reopen once it’s determined they are safe for both employees and guests.”

Regional offices in Frankfort, Somerset, Richmond, Prestonburg, Paducah, Morehead, Madisonville, and Elizabethtown continue to operate. The field office at Bowman Field in Louisville also remains open while non-U.S. residents can visit the field office in Buechel, Jefferson County.

Kentuckians can visit any regional or field office to apply for a REAL ID or standard driver's license or identification card if they don't require testing by Kentucky State Police. Also given that no testing is required and no changes to the information on the credential is needed, they can apply by mail for renewal or replacement of a standard license or ID card.

Appointments disrupted by the closures will be rescheduled or transferred to another KYTC driver licensing facility, Cole said.
