FRANKFORT, Ky. — Governor Andy Beshear again declined to comment on the Attorney General’s investigation into Breonna Taylor’s death Tuesday, but he says if the Kentucky National Guard or Kentucky State Police are needed in Louisville, they’re ready.

“We’re going to make sure that we make the right decision to secure the personal safety of everybody, protect critical infrastructure, and so I think that there can be an expectation that the (Kentucky National) Guard and the Kentucky State Police will serve limited, specific missions where they will be under their own command,” Beshear said.

Responding to a question about precautions Louisville city officials are taking in anticipation of a decision from Attorney General Daniel Cameron, Beshear said city officials are just trying to strike a balance between protecting the city and the rights of protesters.

“The national attention here is so great, the potential for outsiders so significant, the possibility of someone taking something peaceful and trying to turn it into something it’s not is all there,” Beshear said.

Beshear said his office has been communicating with the Attorney General’s office, but he does not know when a decision will be made.
