MOUNT STERLING, Ky. — With most school districts teaching online lessons, some families in Montgomery County are struggling to provide students with WiFi.
Gateway Christian Church, however, is helping out.
The church partnered up with the local school district to provide free WiFi for those families who may need it during online learning.
“When I was a kid growing up, I did not have access to WiFi. And so there's a lot of families that have difficulty putting food on the table, and then they can’t provide another expense to purchase a WiFi, so yeah, it’s a great idea,” said Bill Kilgore, the senior minister at Gateway Christian Church.
Since school started, the church has seen new faces in the parking lot and inside the church using the free WiFi to work on their homework.
“People would come to our church, they would connect into our WiFi, or they would connect a booster or something like that on to it, for people to sit in our parking lot and use the WiFi,” Kilgore said.
The church is not the only organization in Mount Sterling that is providing free WiFi, but it’ll continue to help the community as long as it needs to.
To access the free WiFi, Montgomery County families can park in the parking lot and connect.
