BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell visited Bowling Green to discuss the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act Friday.

The $3 trillion relief package dispersed more than $62.4million to Warren County. More than fifty thousand non-profits, farms, and small businesses, had access to over $5.2 billion in urgent relief funds.

One of the businesses that received relief, was TAZ Trucking of Bowling Green who benefited from the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). McConnell said five months after the first package, it is time to disperse additional funds to help small businesses.

“I would like to see one more round. The PPP Program we were just talking about is basically depleted and I think we need another round," said McConnell.

McConnell agrees with an additional $1,200 check to Americans in a second stimulus package, focusing on those in hospitality services who are still trying to recover or are still unemployed due to the pandemic.

Liability protection was another sticking point for McConnell. He expressed concern, reporting that there are over 3,000 lawsuits surrounding the coronavirus.

“But for this area over a four year period cannot successfully sue a hospital, a doctor, a nurse, a business owner, a university president, K-12 educators, unless you can prove gross negligence or intentional misbehavior,” said McConnell.

With the election around the corner, McConnell described the White House atmosphere as "exceedingly partisan." He said that a date for a second relief package is unknown, but that he is proud of the work The Administration has done.

“I recommended about a trillion dollars, which includes the items that I was just discussing plus more for the hospitals. And then we’ve been in this succession that I alluded to earlier which said the inability to reach an agreement for the last month or 6 weeks,” said McConnell.
