LEXINGTON, Ky. — For some international students, classes being online is helping them feel more connected to students and activities on campus.

Princess Magor Agbozo is an international student from Qatar at the University of Kentucky. She says with the pandemic and everything being online, she has been able to participate in campus events making her feel like a normal student.

With a seven-hour time difference, Magor says that keeping track of the different time zones has been the hardest part. Some days she even wakes up in the middle of the night just to participate in student activities.

“It doesn't feel like I'm being left out or not getting the college experience because I still get to make friends. I still get to connect with people who are going to be in the same class as me. So it's kind of reassuring because it's not like I'm just going into college, not knowing everyone,” Magor Agbozo said.

Since most of the UK classes and student activities are through zoom, as a freshman Magor has been able to participate in many clubs and organizations on campus. She is on the Student Activities Board as a chair and is excited to be able to get involved on campus with other students.

“So these events that UK has organized for us online. It really helps because then I get to connect with other people and that sense of exclusion is kind of eliminated,” Magor Agbozo said.

The international studies program at UK is called Global Wildcats. This program allows students like Princess to still participate in the activities and classes while being in another country and during the pandemic, it has helped keep Princess and other international students feel connected to others on campus.
