WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a message tailored for rural Kentuckians, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell spoke from the commonwealth in taped remarks for the final night of the Republican National Convention.

"Today’s Democrat party doesn’t want to improve life for middle America. They prefer that all of us in flyover country keep quiet and let them decide how we should live our lives," said McConnell.

Kentucky's senior senator highlighted his role as the only leader in Congress's top four not representing New York or California.

"I am immensely proud of the work the Republican Senate has done. We are the firewall against Nancy Pelosi’s agenda. Like President Trump, we won’t be bullied by a liberal media intent on destroying America’s institutions," he said.

The fourth night of the RNC focused on America as a land of greatness.

There were apocalyptic portrayals of American cities under the continued leadership of progressive Democrats and a large emphasis on the First Step Act, the bipartisan criminal justice reform bill signed into law by President Trump in December 2018.

"The nearly twenty-two years I spent in prison were not wasted. God had a purpose and a plan for my life. I was not delayed or denied. I was destined for such a time as this," said Alice Johnson, who was freed from prison in 2018 after Trump commuted her sentence.

"In the strongest possible terms, the Republican party condemns the rioting, looting, arson, and violence we have seen in Democrat-run cities like Kenosha, Minneapolis, New York, and many others," said Trump in his closing address of the convention.
