LEXINGTON, Ky. —The month of August is typically a time that parents start back to school shopping.

But, this year’s shopping experience will look a lot different due to many school districts in the Commonwealth starting the year virtually, instead of in the physical classroom, which requires a whole new list of must-have, bacK to school products.

Eva Lancaster is the President of HamiltonBuhl, which is one of many businesses in the education industry that is focused on enhancing the teaching and learning experience for parents, students, and teachers, through innovative classrooms and mass production of at-home technology.

“Because what schools are doing is giving the Chromebooks to the kids, but a lot of these Chromebooks don't have the built-in webcams. So, one product we offer is actually a gooseneck webcam that can even look down at your keyboard, and show it to the teacher, as well as to allow the teacher to see you,” says Lancaster,

From smart headsets to virtual reality products, Lancaster says there is no question that this year’s back to school shopping list for many families, will have items that are electronic and include various forms of technology.

"Whether it is fully remote or hybrid, making sure that the environments are clean and healthy is going to be critically important. So we have V RAY. This is a handheld device that utilizes UVC technology. UVC technology is a proven technology. The UVC light kills viruses and bacteria, what it does, it destroys the cellular structure,” adds Lancaster

While virtual learning tools will be on the top of many families back to school shopping lists this fall, Lancaster expects the production of new-age technology items to continue to ramp up over the coming years.

HamiltonBuhl says that back to school shopping is traditionally a trial run for what retailers can expect during the holiday shopping season.
