LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. — It’s known as one of the biggest yard sales in the country and it goes right through Kentucky. In order to ensure customers are staying safe, the organizer has new policies in place and changes to the way people can shop.
This year the 127 Yard Sale covers 690 miles from Addison, Michigan to Gadsden, Alabama. The vendors are all located near highway 127. The yard sale has been going on for 34 years and helps bring others out to support local community members.
“Some of the officials came up with the idea to try to entice people to come from the big cities and come onto the main highways into some of the more rural areas, and spend time there and see what these small towns have to offer,” director of media relations, Josh Randall said.
In Kentucky, there are nine different stops with multiple vendors. One of the biggest locations is in Lawrenceburg at the Eagle Lake Expo Center. Jenna Sams, property owner of the convention center says that she had to cut the number of vendors allowed in the location to help maintain social distancing and asking all customers to wear masks while walking around between booths.
“You can find literally a little bit of everything, that is not an exaggeration. Some people clean out their garages and are just trying to make a few bucks, other people, this is what they do. They go around and set up shows.” Sams said.
With the sale going through different states, the organization has a resource on its website that helps explain the COVID-19 policies for each state and county and asks that anyone participating in the event follow them.
Sunday, August 9 will be the last day of the sale for this year.
