FRANKFORT, Ky. - On Friday, Gov. Andy Beshear (D) re-emphasized the importance of face coverings in many situations to protect Kentucky lives and the economy.

  • Governor and Cabinet for Health and Family Services concerned about daycares

  • Urge centers to follow state health guidelines

  • Do not want to see the situations being seen across the country

Beshear reminded Kentuckians of how important it is that daycares follow all public health guidance to limit the spread of COVID-19.

“We are seeing cases at daycares,” said Beshear. “We followed some really good public health guidance. We did eat a lot of other states are doing and we limited the sizes of classes.”

The limit of classes in Kentucky is 10. Recent outbreaks across the United States made the Governor and Eric Friedlander, secretary of the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, spend some time to address the important topic for Kentuckians. Texas reported at least 1,335 people there tested positive for COVID-19 after contracting the virus at a child care center. Gov. Beshear said Kentucky has 22 child care center cases, 15 staff, and seven children as of his Friday briefing.

Friedlander said that the rules are in place to keep the numbers as low as possible to not fall into the dire situation Texas daycare is in.

“We are trying to take an approach that saves lives. That’s what is most important,” said Friedlander, the secretary for the Cabinet of Health and Family Services. “I’ll put the lives of Kentucky’s children and families over profit and day.”
