COVINGTON, Ky. — For more than 20 years, the Mainstrasse Village Pub has been a staple in Covington.
Owner Curt Zinga has been counting down the time until reopening.
“104 days ago when we shut down on March the 16th was the first time that this bar has ever been closed in 20 years,” Zinga said.
He’s spending time putting out more outdoor seating, measuring each table, so they're safely spaced out.
Zinga said the news of closing bars in March was heartbreaking to hear.
“I don’t cry often but I cried, it was very sad, and it was unfortunate,” Zinga said.
Zinga is now turning around that fortune and it’s slowly becoming smoother.
But bars in the commonwealth have been closed five weeks longer than those in Ohio, and for the Northern Kentucky border counties of Boone, Campbell and Kenton, that has been weeks of lost revenue.
“I think people did go [to Cincinnati] because they wanted to get out and they wanted the atmosphere of being in a restaurant or being in a bar restaurant. You know I think they would do that, but I don’t know if we would actually lose people to businesses over in Ohio,” Zinga said.
The owner is optimistic even though he may have not seen his customers temporarily.
