LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A witness started a Facebook Live video moments before a shooter opened fire at a crowd at Jefferson Square Park in Louisville Saturday night. Louisville Metro Police said one person was killed and another injured during the incident.

"I started the Facebook Live and just kept my eyes on the shooter watching his shoulders and hips. I know there are a few things happening. One is obviously there is a shooter and the second is I am unarmed and did not have a bulletproof vest at the time," Maxwell Mitchell said.

The beginning of the video shows a suspect appearing to hold a gun and fire into a crowd. Shortly after, it shows Mitchell and others running away from the scene to take cover.

"When I heard more shots going on behind me to the left of me going towards the shooter, I immediately dropped and just tried to get out of there," Mitchell said.

After the shots were over, you could see Mitchell make his way closer to the tents in the square. You could see a victim on the ground as people rushed to try to help him.

"I am remorseful for that person who was shot, that person's friends and family," Mitchell said. "I worry about the group as a whole. What is this going to do as it relates to the temperament of everyone in Jefferson Square Park?"

He continued rolling the video live on Facebook for about an hour. At that time. you could see police blocking off the area with crime scene tape and taking statements from witnesses. Mitchell explained, he posts Facebook lives often while at protests knowing how important live video can be in capturing the full scope of a story.

"I always say if you want to know the whole truth, look at the live footage," Mitchell said.
