KENTUCKY — November and the general election seems far away, but it's right around the corner. If you won't be in town to cast your vote you can request an absentee ballot.  The portal to make your request opens Sept. 24, 2022.  Once you cast your vote, you will be able to track the status of your absentee ballot. 

What You Need To Know

  • You can track your absentee ballot at Secretary of State's website

  • You'll need to identify yourself with name, date of birth and last four digits of your social security number

  • You'll be able to see everything from when you requested it to when it arrived and if it has been counted yet

Just go to govoteky.com and click on the "Track your ballot status and review your registration" button. It will take you to a form where you will enter your name, date of birth, and the last four digits of your social security number. After you submit the information, it pulls up a form with all of your information on it and it lists your legislative districts. At the top of the form above your name, there is a teal button that says "Show Absentee Ballot Status." After you click that button another window opens up and it tells you what election your ballot is for, the day you requested your ballot, the day the clerk received your request, the day the clerk sent out your ballot, and the day the clerk received your completed ballot back. 

For a closer look at the process, the Jefferson County Clerk's Office often will livestreaming the ballot processing center it has set up. It allows voters to see what is happening and how many people are working at any time.
