FRANKFORT, Ky. - The statue of Confederate president Jefferson Davis is no longer standing at the Kentucky Capitol.
Crews worked all day Saturday. First to remove the statue from the pedestal, then hours later out of the building and onto a flat bed truck.
This Historic Properties Advisory Commission voted to remove the statue, following a request by Gov. Andy Beshear (D).
The Jefferson Davis statue has been in the Capitol rotunda since 1936. Beshear has been calling for the removal of the statue since last week.
The statue will be moved to the Jefferson Davis monument in Todd County, where Davis was born.
