LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A day after David McAtee was killed at 26th and Broadway, Louisville Metro Police released video it recovered from McAtee's business and another adjacent from McAtee's barbeque business. 

There are two different angles of McAtee's business one from inside and the other outside overlooking his smokers and grills. Acting police chief Robert Schroeder said the video appears to show McAtee, seen wearing a red shirt, firing a gun outside of his business as officers using pepper balls were attempting to clear the Dino's lot and were approaching his business. Shroeder said, "This video does not provide all the answers. But we are releasing it to provide transparency. It does not answer every question including why did he fire? and where were police at the time he fired."

LMPD knows these are questions the community wants to be answered. LMPD's Public Integrity Unit, the Kentucky State Police, and the Kentucky National Guard are all investigating what happened. 

Major Paul Humphrey with LMPD said officers were there to break up the last large crowd so that it didn't become unruly. While officers were clearing the lot at Dino's they came across some people and that is when they used pepper balls and the incident happens. It is unclear why officers didn't go to McAtee's business or what prompted the shots to be fired initially. Humphrey says that will come out in the investigation.  

While the video shows McAtee firing a gun, it isn't clear who or what he is firing at and again Humphrey said they hope the investigation will bring that forward.

The officers involved in the case, Austin Allen and Katie Crews, are on administrative duty. They have not been interviewed about what happened yet. Humphrey says it is so they can hire lawyers and have the present for questioning.

Humphrey says the video show that it appears McAtee fired first, but that will be determined through the investigation.

Secretary J. Michael Brown spoke of the shooting during Gov. Andy Beshear's (D) daily briefing Tuesday.  He said the initial autopsy report suggests McAtee died of a single gunshot wound to the chest. Brown went on to say it is believed that there were atleast 18 shot fired by LMPD and the National Guard. It will take more time to study the bullet fragments.  Brown continued by saying seven weapons were confiscated at the scene of the shooting. 

Schroeder said, "This video is obviously troubling for us as police and as our community because a community-member died in an interaction with police officers and its very, very important to us that we gather all the facts of what happened and come to an appropriate conclusion for what is best both the police department and the community as we move forward."

Mayor Fischer said he showed the video to McAtee's mother Tuesday morning.
