CALVERT CITY, Ky. — The Team Kentucky spirit has helped people stay positive amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

Kentuckians have rallied to try to do what they can to help people who have been negatively impacted by COVID-19.

Pathway Baptist Church listened to Governor Andy Beshear when he instructed houses of worship to come up with creative ways to celebrate their faiths that adhere to social distancing mandates.

In the last two weeks, Pathway Baptist has had services at a local drive-in theater.

Michael Donald is the chief pastor at Pathway Baptist Church. Donald and his congregation sympathize with people who have fallen into tough economic positions due to the coronavirus.

“We know that in our area, probably 90 to 100 restaurant servers were laid off,” said Donald. They were furloughed until otherwise called back.”

Donald decided to put a donation bucket for collections in order to remind the workers that they are not alone.

“Let’s just get a bucket out there,” said Donald. “We are going to express our love to them and for the last two weeks as people exit the drive-in they throw their change into the bucket.”

Donald said that the community raised $10,250. He helped deliver the checks Thursday.

“It is a meeting a need, it is not making a car payment or a house payment,” said Donald. “but it is an expression of love to people who are really discouraged right now.”

He hopes efforts like this inspire Kentuckians to seek out opportunities to help others.

“If you just make yourself available, there’s ways you can be a blessing to somebody,” said Donald.

Pathway Baptist Church isn’t done uplifting their community. They plan to team up with Majestic Pizza and Steakhouse as well as MegaFit Meals to hand out 320 meals.
