GEORGETOWN, Ky. — It’s was meant to be a reprieve from thinking about all the things going on in the world right now.

"We're all growing through this process and I just wanted to give somebody a laugh, whether it be a teacher or an administrator, whoever heard it, somebody that just likes watching Andy at 5 that might... A parent that is also screaming, 'No more NTI.' could get a giggle out of it at a time when there aren't many giggles around."

Meet Keith Griesser, an Elementary School Principal and songwriter of “Andy at Five”, a parody of Bon Jovi’s “Dead or Alive”.

Griesser says he went with what he knew.

"It's one of my favorite songs from when I was in high school. So originally the song was going to be about NTI specifically. That was my original thought. And that went with Dead or Alive too. I could do NTI as those words. But then as I got into it, I switched it around a little bit and NTI is still a part of the song, but it was more focused on Andy at 5, and how we're going to get through this and all that kind of stuff. So, it's just, that's where the creativity led."

Griesser’s YouTube hit has collected nearly 80-thousand views in the past week. The song’s lyrics address what has become a 5:00 p.m. ritual for many Kentuckians; Governor Andy Beshear’s daily COVID-19 update.  It also thanks Kentucky’s teacher and addresses the Non-Traditional Instruction or N-T-I that all Kentucky students currently face.

"This song I wrote it for the teachers who are just trying everything that they can to become familiar with how they can teach online. And then also provide for students who don't have online access from their homes through other methods without being close to those kids. And that's a difficult thing to do."

Griesser hopes that his parody helps bring some calm at a time when life has brought so much change to Kentuckians.

"I think it just shows, there's so much angst that something that can make people laugh, everyone wants to share it with everybody else right now."

A music parody to share at a time when everyone can use a good laugh, some comfort, and calm.
