LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville firefighter has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

The firefighter had no symptoms when he worked his last shift Friday, March 20, but began showing symptoms at home Sunday, March 22. He called health care providers and was given a test Monday. The firefighter does not live in Jefferson County, was tested because of his job as a first responder. His results came back Tuesday as positive.

The firefighter is self-isolating at home

Louisville Metro Public Health and Wellness is working with the firefighter’s home county health agency and Louisville Fire to determine any additional actions.

Since the onset of the COVI9-19 outbreak, the Louisville Fire Department has instituted several protocols to keep firefighters and the public safe. Each firefighter has his or her vitals checked three times during a 24-hour shift, and any personnel showing a fever of more than 100 degrees or other symptoms is sent home to self-monitor and asked to contact their healthcare provider if symptoms worsen.
