NATIONWIDE — Toyota is remaining closed for an even longer period of time.

With the continuing COVID-19 crisis and the low demand for cars, all of Toyota's North American automobie and components plants will remain closed through May 1. The company hopes to resume producton on May 4. 

The company says service departments and showrooms will remain open to meet customer needs. 

It was previouslyannounced the Toyota Motor Manufacturing, KY would pay employees and variable workforce through April 10, 2020.  For the week April 13-19  employees will have the option of using PTO or unpaid time off.

On March 19, Toyota announced its first suspension extension. 

Toyota originally planned to close facilities from March 23-24 and resume production on March 25. 

The Georgetown plant (TMMK) had production canceled for Saturday, March 25.

A second announcement said the closure would last from March 23 until April 3 with production resuming on April 6.

In a statement, Toyota said, “This action is being taken to protect the health and safety of our employees, key stakeholders, and communities, as well as a result of the significant market decline due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. To support our employees, Toyota will continue to offer full pay during this shutdown period for all production team members and variable workforce.”
