LOUISVILLE, KY. —  Supplies Over Seas provide a one of a kind mission.

Inside you'll find a warehouse filled with new medical supplies and recovered equipment that has saved and changed lives on a local and global level.

So when the coronavirus hit China they immediately reached out help says CEO Denise Sears.

"The goal was to help contain the virus in Wuhan to help prevent global spreading. We were concerned about the United States. We were concerned about you know countries with fragile healthcare systems you know like in Africa or Central America so that was what prompted our initial response," Sears said.

But it wasn't long before cases started popping up in our state.

Facemasks, protective gowns, and latex gloves were in high demand.

"The University of Louisville Department of Infectious Disease reached out to us. They were working with the local Metro Department of Health. We sent thousands of supplies to them. Now there had been no cases in Louisville at the time so that was really more of a preventive measure. We've had since then had cases occurring in Louisville. We have had numerous requests, we have been responding to a hospital that is a health home care service. They had prepared for a hospital service but they hadn't gotten the supplies for their home health so we were able to help them with some supplies for that," Sears said.

The non-profit wants to make it clear they are truly only dedicated to helping people in need.

"One of the things that has been very important to us is to make sure at this most critical time that the supplies we are giving out are not helping an organization stockpile. We want to be certain that they have an urgent need right now," Sears said.

Sears is hopeful things get better soon but also sees a silver lining when all is said is done.

"One of the things I think this coronavirus has done is make all of us around the world recognize how small the globe is and how interconnected we are and so I'm hoping that we no longer kind if see it as us and them but rather it's us and we are in it together," Sears said.

SO.S. has sent out 350,000 items domestically and globally.
