LOUISVILLE, Ky. — One of the most perfect foods on the planet is a perfectly cooked hamburger.  The Kentucky Derby Festival and the Kentucky Beef Council are searching for this year's "Derby Burger" Champion.

In the past, the contest was for food fans, but this year chefs are being invited to compete.  Burger makers are encouraged to submit their recipes now until March 9. This is the ninth annual contest.  You can submit your recipes online.

“This competition showcases two of our state’s favorite things – Kentucky beef and a delicious burger,” said Katelyn Hawkins, Kentucky Beef Council. “With so many talented chefs in Kentucky restaurants and home kitchens, we’re excited to see what kind of burgers they cook up for us this year.”

Every burger recipe submitted must use 100% beef and will be judged on the following:

  • Taste
  • Appearance
  • Creativity
  • Ease of Preparation

The winning burger will be featured at Kroger's Fest-a-Ville during Derby Festival and sampled at BeefFest.

The winning chef will also receive four VIP tickets to Thunder Over Louisville, four tickets to a concert at Kroger's Fest-a-Ville, tickets to BeefFest, as well as a $100 Kroger gift certificate and feature inside Louisville Kroger, and if that wasn't enough, a grilling prize pack from the Kentucky Beef Council
