VERSAILLES, Ky. — Two organizations are partnering up to help provide food for better health.

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield will be giving $190,000 to support the mission of God's Pantry Food Bank.

The two agencies are hoping this will increase access to better food.

“Historically, we do a lot of fresh potatoes. What this will allow us to do, is change that mix to do more cabbage, more carrots, more apples, more oranges, more sweet potatoes, that will provide a better nutritional balance for those that are hungry across Central and Eastern Kentucky,” says Michael Halligan, CEO of God's Pantry Food Bank

Over the next year, God's Pantry plans to provide 15 produce drop locations and multiple other distributions across their 50 county service area, which will allow for the food bank to provide nearly 14 million pounds of fresh produce annually to Kentuckians.

"For $1, God's Pantry Food Bank is able to gather and distribute enough food to create eight meals, for $1. We can feed a family of four for $3 for a weekend. That same family, we can feed for a whole week on a little over $10. So $190,000, I mean you can do the math, the number of meals that that creates is amazing," adds Halligan.
