LOUISVILLE, Ky. —  Members of the Kentucky Historical Society, Muhammad Ali’s brother, and other family members gathered at  Columbia Gym at Spalding University to remember where Ali's career began. A new historical marker now resides where Ali's boxing career began.

“This marker at Columbia Gym is one in a series of six new markers around the city that commemorate the roots of the man who would become known as the greatest.” Dean of Graduate Education at Spalding University, Dr. Kurt W. Jefferson said.

Although this building is an important part of  Ali’s life, it also has had an impact on the community members, students, and staff that walk through the building on a daily basis.

“Our students see these as they walk through this building and are reminded of not only the great Muhammad Ali but also the importance of hard work, dedication, and perseverance which was exemplified through his life.” Strength and Conditioning Coach, Spalding University Athletics Danielle Lavender said.

Friday, January 16 is Ali's birthday. He would have been 78.
