LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Legos have been a huge part of Aiden Johnson’s life. Johnson’s passion for Legos began in February 2007 when he was diagnosed with cancer at age 3.
In March 2013, Johnson and his family launched Aiden’s Legacy to give back to the Addison Jo Blair Cancer Care Center at Norton Children’s Hospital through collection and distribution of Legos to kids fighting cancer.
Today, Aiden’s Legacy collects Legos for children battling cancer and raises money to support pediatric cancer care at Norton Children’s Hospital.
“Being through two battles of cancer is hard, but as a 15 year old child giving back to the same very people that he once was is amazing,” said Gena Johnson, Aiden’s mother.
Johnson said that Aiden’s Legacy has raised nearly $407,000 for Norton Children’s.
The programming doesn’t just take place during the holiday season, but year round.
Johnson hosted a private screening of the latest Star Wars movie to 40 children who have or had cancer.
“It’s about bonding, but it is mostly about forgetting cancer,” said Johnson.
Aiden’s Legacy provided every child with a Star Wars Lego set to go home with after the screening.
